This vase belongs to the period when Claudius Linossier produced some of his most stunning pieces. Linossier was a brazier from Lyon whose extremely personal work was part of the movement that restored the reputation of metalwork as an artform in the 1920s.

The simple, pure lines of Linossier’s metal vases are the perfect foil for the intricate geometric heat-applied motifs. The shoulder of this vase is adorned with a complex pattern of interweaving triangles in two shades of silver. On the body, a design featuring alternating silver diamonds and large copper-coloured triangles with a shifting reddish-orange effect is typical of the artist's work. The lower third, in a beautiful shade of black, is covered with nickel silver: a copper, zinc, and nickel alloy that the brazier added to his usual repertoire of materials around 1922-1923.
