Les Modernes

From Matisse to Bacon

From 2 October 2026 to 14 February 2027, Venaria Reale

A journey through 20th-century painting, from the collections of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Lyon. Les Modernes. From Matisse to Bacon exhibition proposes a fascinating journey through twentieth-century painting, exploring the evolution of modern European art.

Through a selection of works by absolute masters, such as Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, André Derain, Jean Dubuffet, Wifredo Lam, Hans Hartung, Simon Hantaï, Francis Bacon and many others, the exhibition itinerary highlights the profound transformations of the artistic language of the twentieth century: from the search for purity of forms and colour to the dramatic tensions of Expressionism and post-war figurative art.

Les Modernes represents an unmissable opportunity to grasp the aspects of creative freedom and aesthetic revolution that marked twentieth-century art.

In collaboration with the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Lyon; Manifesto Expo; MondoMostre.

Curated by Sylvie Ramond.
